I recently installed Office 2013 and ran into some activation issues.
Every time I tried to activate it, I received an error message.
To fix it, I had to manually change the product key (as the installation had generated a random, incorrect key).
After following these steps, I was able to activate Office without any further problems.

How to Change Office 2013 Product Key Using Command Prompt?
Follow the steps below to reset and update your key:
1. Open the Command Prompt
Search for CMD in your Start menu, right-click it, and select Run as Administrator.
2. Check the Current Status
Enter the command that matches your system architecture:
- For Office 2013 (64-bit) or Office 2013 on Windows 32-bit:
cscript "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15\OSPP.VBS" /dstatus - For Office 2013 (32-bit) on Windows 64-bit:
cscript "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15\OSPP.VBS" /dstatus
3. Note the Last 5 Digits
After running the command, look for the line that shows the last 5 characters of the installed product key.
Write them down, as you will need them for the next step.
4. Uninstall the Old Key
Replace XXXXX with the 5 digits you just noted:
- For Office 2013 (64-bit/32-bit standard):
cscript "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15\OSPP.VBS" /unpkey:XXXXX - For Office 2013 (32-bit) on Windows 64-bit:
cscript "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15\OSPP.VBS" /unpkey:XXXXX
5. Install the New Product Key
Now, insert your new valid key using the following command (replace the Xs with your full 25-character key):
- For Office 2013 (64-bit/32-bit standard):
cscript "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15\OSPP.VBS" /inpkey:XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX - For Office 2013 (32-bit) on Windows 64-bit:
cscript "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15\OSPP.VBS" /inpkey:XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX
Conclusion
Once you run the final command, your Office 2013 product key will be updated.
Now you can activate your product! In my case, this immediately solved the activation error.
